Fostering with HSWA

How to Foster
Short-term fostering is one of the crucial ways to help our animals become more adoptable. When you welcome a pet into your home, you’re offering them a chance to socialize and grow! In a loving environment, they learn how to interact with people, get comfortable with obedience commands, acclimatize to routines and even experience leash training. The benefits are absolutely endless!
Are you a college student and miss your pet back home? Become a foster! We provide all the supplies and vet care, and take the pets back when you’re on break or vacation.

Fostering Resources from HSWA to You
How We Will Help You Foster
HSWA will make sure that you have everything you need to successfully foster one of our animals. We will provide you with food, bowls, and either a doghouse or a kennel. We will also look out for the health of your foster pet by providing veterinary treatment, heartworm preventative, and flea and tick treatments. We will also make sure that training, behavioral support, and transportation (if you are unable to) is provided to every foster family.
The Homing Process
After completing your Foster Application and receiving your approval, it’s time to get your home and family ready for an exciting new addition! It’s essential to create a welcoming environment where your family and current pets can bond with their new furry member! By fostering a pet in need of socialization or recovering from medical treatment, you’ll give them the much-needed comfort and care they crave at home. Your support also allows our adoption center to focus on sheltering more homeless animals in need. All we ask from our foster families is help providing reliable support and transportation to and from the adoption site and any necessary veterinary care visits.
