Our New Campus
Welcome to Our Animal Adoption Center!
Celebrating a New and Improved Home Base
HSWA proudly owns 12 acres in Cottondale duly dubbed our Buttermilk Road Campus. This state-of-the-art campus will reach full occupancy in late 2026 and provide room to grow as we continue expanding our reach. We are excited about this new spacious location! It will be custom-built to fit our needs and is conveniently located for everyone to access. Spanning seven thoughtfully designed buildings, each with unique amenities, the farm is poised to be more than just an adoption center. It will be a vibrant and welcoming space for both our animals and the community.

Facility Vision
A Revamped Approach to Animal Care
Not Just a Shelter — A Wonderland for Pets-in-Waiting
Nestled amidst the beautiful Alabama treescape, our facilities are designed with both our pets and team in mind. Our goal is to create space that supports every facet of the adoption journey. For our volunteers and visitors, we will offer a cozy cabin to gather, and a welcoming Meet & Greet Yard where prospective adopters can connect with their future companions.
Our feline and canine care homes will provide safe, nurturing spaces for animals, complete with special amenities like “Catios” and a “Dog Days Covered Porch”. Here, the animals will roam freely and enjoy the outdoors.
The Canine Special Care Unit will offer a comfortable transition space for up to seven dogs, helping them to adjust to the new surroundings before moving into the canine care home. With a dedicated caretaker’s residence on-site, staffed 24/7, we will ensure that every need is met and create a truly supportive environment for all visitors and residents of our campus.
A Vision For the Future
Double the Love: More Cats & Dogs Finding Their Happy Ending!
Our expanded campus increases our capacity for cats and dogs by 70%. This will enable us to help more animals and host new community programs and events that bring us all together. With this growth, we can strengthen our partnerships and make an even greater impact on animal welfare in Tuscaloosa. Join us on this journey to make a difference for our furry friends!
