Pet & Animal Resources
Need help?
Need assistance with spay/neuter resources or guidance on what to do if you find a stray pet? Below are some amazing local organizations dedicated to animal welfare in the Tuscaloosa area. These passionate groups work tirelessly to support the animals in our community and ensure they receive the care they deserve.

Rehoming a Pet or Stray
Do you need to rehome a pet, or find a home for a stray that you’ve taken in temporarily? There are resources to help!
The first place to look is Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter’s Owner Assistance page. They offer a comprehensive array of support services for those who might need help with food, supplies and vet bills, so that your pet can stay with you as long as possible. If re-homing is absolutely necessary, TMAS offers its Home-to-Home listing service, which matches potential adopters with owners needed to re-home. Keeping animals out of a shelter is always the best option, and TMAS can help you.
In addition to TMAS, the organizations listed below can, when possible, provide help. If you see a stray or abandoned animal and can’t take it in yourself, please call Animal Control so they can get the animal off the streets and into a shelter, where it at least has a chance of being adopted. With the exception of feral cat colonies (which can survive well on their own), animals roaming free are at great risk of disease and physical harm. If you take in a stray, please be prepared to care for that animal until you can re-home it.
The Humane Society of West Alabama also offers a courtesy listings on our website and PetFinder. A courtesy listing will appear on our website and will be linked to petfinder.com, so many people will see the post. This is a free service, but if you wish, you may donate the rehoming fee to the HSWA. Click the button below to fill out our courtesy listing form. Once the form has been submitted, be sure to send 3-4 photos of just the animal (no people) to info@humanesocietyofwa.org. The posting will stay up for 3 months.
